The Walt Disney Company Senior Paralegal in Burbank, California

About the Role & Team

We are seeking a senior paralegal to join Disney’s Corporate Legal Copyright Group. As a member of our team, you will be responsible for assisting on copyright and other rights matters working closely with attorneys and other paralegals. This work includes, but is not limited to, detailed tracking and management of various copyright matters and global content, correspondence with international partners, review of contracts and files for rights related matters, and supporting the work of attorneys handling legal issues. The role will have exciting exposure to matters related to various business divisions of Walt Disney Studios both domestically and internationally (such as Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, Twentieth Century Studios, Searchlight); Disney Media Networks (including ABC Entertainment, ESPN); Disney Consumer Products; Disney World-Wide Publishing; Disney Music Group; and our direct-to-consumer offerings (including Disney+, ESPN+, STAR+, Hulu).

What You Will Do

  • Populate, manage, and administrate various tracking systems and databases for rights issues impacting global content and marketing.

  • Prepare and send internal reminders of upcoming deadlines and pending matters, and continuously track such matters.

  • Conduct supporting research into copyright records.

  • Work closely with attorneys on domestic and international copyright matters.

  • Communicate directly with legal, business and other internal and external partners involved in developing and marketing content, and various copyright matters.

  • Track and respond to requests to use company intellectual property

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum 4 years in a Paralegal role or minimum 4 years at a reputable law firm preferably with experience around IP rights and/or entertainment/studio experience.

  • Extremely detail-oriented while also able to think conceptually across projects and learn quickly applying lessons from one assignment to another with skill and intelligence.

  • A self-starter with ability to take direction from attorneys.

  • Excellent and clear written/email skills.

  • Excellent analytic and listening skills.

  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills with ability to collaborate and establish strong working relationships with various internal and external partners.

  • Superior organizational and time-management skills.

  • Proactive ability to independently track complex matters for attorneys.

  • Ability to work quickly and to independently manage own workload and prioritize assignments.

  • Must be able to hold him-/her-/them-self accountable for results.

  • Ability to properly handle materials that are confidential.

  • Exceptional judgment.

  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel with strong ability to become proficient in the day-to-day office software that may be used by the Company (such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and document management platforms)

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.

  • ABA-approved Paralegal Certificate or a Paralegal by education and work experience as set forth by California Business and Profession Code, Section 6450(c)

The hiring range for this position in California is $84,500.00-$113,300.00 per year based on a 40 hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
