Digital Guest Experience & eCommerce is the digital arm of The Walt Disney Company’s Parks, Experiences & Consumer Products segment. Through our award-winning digital experiences, we provide magical connections and enhancements to travel destinations such as the Walt Disney World® Resort in Florida, the Disneyland® Resort in California, Disneyland Paris, Shanghai Disney Resort, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, and Tokyo Disney Resort. The DGE & eCommerce team also designs and creates digital experiences for Disney Cruise Line, Adventures by Disney and Disney Vacation Club.
The DGE & eCommerce team is responsible for end-to-end, digital-plus-physical Guest experience for over 130M+ annual Disney Park Guests, as well as Merchandise eCommerce globally. This includes the following lines of business: Tickets and Lodging (both consumer direct and digital travel trade), Content & Messaging, Attractions & Entertainment, Photo-Imaging, Resorts & Transportation and Food & Beverage. The team is responsible for concept development, defining and executing these initiatives in collaboration with Operations Integration, Site Operations, Technology, Consumer Insights, Walt Disney Imagineering, Finance and Human Resources.
The Manager, Digital Innovation manages the Innovation in Production (IIP) team, which is responsible for consistently delivering high quality proof-of-concepts, prototypes and pilots of emerging technologies that complement and accelerate our Digital Guest Experience and e-Commerce opportunities.
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in emerging technologies (artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing, APIs, etc.), with the business acumen to excel at managing diverse relationships across multiple functional areas including product, technology, operations, security and legal. This role will challenge the candidate by having to manage the rapid delivery of a diverse set of projects in varying stages.
Innovation in Production:
Establish strong relationships, both internally and externally, with business and technology partners to provide a steady stream of new project opportunities
Continually evaluate external capabilities/products that could compliment & rapidly accelerate our digital Guest experiences across the following line of businesses: eCommerce, Attractions & Entertainment, Resorts, Transportation, Cruise Line, Food & Beverage, Merchandise and Imaging
Discover and implement technology that can support the following themes: Personalization, Automation, Conversion, Data Science/Machine Learning Tools, Digital Attribution, Gamification, Computer Vision and Augmented Reality
Rapidly proto-type and pilot test products, quickly moving successful pilots into production with the core Product teams
Ensure a streamlined legal, privacy and security review process across all efforts
Stay abreast of consumer trends and evolving core use cases across Digital Guest Experience and e-Commerce product themes
Partner with and participate in consumer insight research and usability to develop a complete understanding of the Guest and their challenges
Work closely with the delivery teams to adapt/adjust our software development processes to support ideation and innovation within the product lifecycle
Create live lab demos/prototypes of specific use cases
Lead and develop a team of 3-5 individual contributors and will provide indirect innovation centric guidance to leaders and individuals across the digital organization
Effectively interface with executives (Director, VP, SVP) across our organization as well as the broader Disney organization
Represent the Walt Disney Company to external partners and stakeholders alike
Set the cadence (bi-weekly) and agenda for IIP exec level updates, consistently driving the team to bring strong demos with sound business cases
Basic Qualifications :
Proven ability and passion to lead fast paced, innovative teams with a penchant for building strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders alike
Strong technical background and with the ability to quickly evaluate technologies, how they can fit into our existing tech stack and their business applications
Experience evaluating technology solutions for fit and viability against use cases as well as evaluating the companies for viability
Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills, with the ability to empower others and foster co-creating among diverse teams/skillsets
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively present a compelling vision and story at an executive level within and outside of Disney
Capable of multi-tasking and managing an innovation program, across numerous disciplines, varying technologies and use cases
Strong evangelizing skill, with the ability to influence direct reports as well as partners who you do not have direct control over
Financial acumen including but not limited to build-vs-buy and basic NPV/IRR driven by revenue increases and cost reductions
VC and/or entrepreneurial experience, founding or working at a start-up is a plus
Technical degree with business experience strongly preferred
Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 15%
