Disney’s Direct-to-Consumer and International (DTCI) division is a newly formed technology epicenter which combines Disney’s tradition of bold innovation and creativity to directly deliver compelling content to hundreds of millions of people all around the world. This role is part of the Content Platform Engineering team, responsible for the global technology platforms that support digital media distribution of all film and television content to any channel or partner, including the Disney+ service. This team drives automation and efficiency, streamlines and strengthens our distribution pipeline and technology stack, engineers platforms that manage content metadata, and delivers critical business systems that materialize sales commitments into delivery reality.

Responsibilities:

As a Senior Manager, Software Engineering, this person will provide clear technical leadership to a team of software engineer delivering new features for our application portfolio. You will be the results-driven technical leader of a motivated team where we’ll be looking for you to help steer the team in order to drive application architecture, code quality, and make sure we are doing the right thing by our users. You will be an important part of a motivated team where we’ll be looking for you to collaborate with the team to drive application architecture, code quality, and make sure we are building the right things for our users. You will use your deep Software Engineering, creative, and leadership skills to drive your team to iteratively and continuously deploy new features, functionality, and products to our customers. The ideal candidate would possess deep skills in both server and client side technology (JAVA, Spring Boot, React, Node.js, RESTful Web Services), while having worked with orchestration and containerization platforms (Docker and Kubernetes), coupled with hands on persistence and data streaming technology experience (MySQL, Postgres, Redis, Kafka, Elasticsearch).

Basic Qualifications:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Engineering, or another technical field

  • Have 8+ years of experience in web application development or software engineering in a fast paced environment using JAVA and Javascript, including familiarity with modern frameworks and platforms (e.g., Spring Boot, React, Node.js, Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka, AWS)

  • 5+ years direct reports in flat or stacked team structures, creating performant teams and team cultures

  • Be able to demonstrate significant experience working with relational databases, SQL and newer NoSQL data stores as well as event streaming platforms

  • Demonstrate a strong background working with open source technologies and cloud native engineering principles and patterns

  • Care about your craft and have opinions about the “right” way to do things with technology

  • Dedication to and deep knowledge of data, employing insights to make decisions and adjustments on a daily/weekly basis.

  • Excellent presentation skills and ability to clearly communicate goals, status and issues upwards and across organization.

  • Solid understanding of tools, technologies, processes and methodologies employed in the development of interactive software for web and native applications. Ability to work with engineering teams to deliver elegant and timely solutions.

  • Experience managing high profile productions synchronously.

  • Enthusiasm and interest in Disney’s franchises and the content that Disney can deliver via digital applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related technical discipline is highly desirable

  • Previous work experience in media production, broadcast and/or distribution

  • Experience working with vendor teams to deliver high quality results

  • Strong curiosity about how Disney delivers the Magic and a desire to be a part of it
