The Walt Disney Company Mgr Software Engineering in Lake Buena Vista, Florida

What You’ll Do

  • Lead an engineering team that delivers and deploys high quality applications, services, and support in a distributed systems environment including bookable experiences and dining reservations capabilities.

  • Manage and optimize delivery of sustainment and project efforts by leading all aspects of Commerce-related systems including the budgeting, resource planning, launch support, conflict resolution, and production transitions.

  • Coordinate and lead external vendor relationships, including their delivery of products and ongoing optimization of existing agreements.

  • Drive continuous improvement including monitoring functions and solutions for efficiencies and optimization.

  • Designing and building a roadmap for delivering a world class support model for the retail and restaurant technology space.

  • Act as the key point of contacts for business support requests and challenges, including on-call support responsibility for critical technology issues.

  • Review, augment, and build critical metrics for responsible systems, using visualization tools.

  • Act as key collaborator with the audit teams for the PCI and SOX annual compliance requirements and audits.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Highly enthusiastic leader with ability to work in a collaborative environment.

  • Proven ability to be a self-starter with ability to navigate ambiguity.

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience.

  • 3+ years of leading software delivery teams.

  • Deep understanding of Object-Oriented Analysis, Design and Development experience.

  • Experience with software delivery lifecycle. Including web and mobile application development, backend service development and multi-vendor environments.

  • Experience leading and recruiting technical teams, including software engineers, system and platform engineers, software architects and technical project managers.

  • Experience with Agile development approaches.

  • Solid understanding and experience implementing DevOps.

  • Shown ability to handle financials, including team budget, resource forecasting, hardware/software maintenance payments, contractor invoices, identifying coverage gaps, and funds to close those gaps.

  • Demonstrated ability at achieving sophisticated technology goals on-time and on-budget.

  • Passionate about innovation and striving for simple solutions to address complex problems.

  • Highly organized with excellent documentation skills.

  • Demonstrated experience and discipline in monitoring, supporting and improving availability and reliability of deployed applications.

  • Demonstrated good interpersonal customer centric skills, who flourishes with tight schedules, has the capability to solve complex problems, and thrives in our high-energy, fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • AI/ML experience/familiarity

  • Development experience in one of the following: Angular, Android/iOS, Flutter/Dart, Java/Spring, Kotlin, Go

  • Understanding of both NoSQL and relational databases.

  • Experience with the design, implementation and delivery of REST web services, web and mobile applications.

  • Experience deploying and integrating with multiple cloud-based solutions (e.g., AWS, Azure, vendor packages).

  • Knowledge and experience with distributed systems, their development, operations, and observability.

Education

  • Bachelors in computer science, engineering, information systems, or related field/work experience.
