The Data Center Operations organization provides physically secure, environmentally stable, high availability hosting services. In conjunction with the rest of End User and Technical Operations the organization delivers managed data center, server, storage, authentication, and DNS services to Enterprise Technology clients. The Data Center Operations team plays a dual role, managing the data center facility relationship and its assets (directly or through remote smart hands) and providing break/fix support as directed by the Platform and or Network Operations team.

The Data Center Support Technician will be responsible for infrastructure moves, adds and changes. They will work with the rest of the Data Center Operations staff and work on independent projects as assigned.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with other team members in the Enterprise Technology organization to support deployments, technology evaluations, or other efforts requiring data center involvement and Assist in Data Center Operations.

  • Timely resolution and/or escalation of customer issues and maintaining a level of professionalism while engaging with customers.

  • Troubleshoot and document technical issues using the Enterprise Technology ticketing system and routinely updating all relevant and required documentation.

  • Follow Data Center Operations policies and procedures and Enterprise Technology Support processes and procedures while delivering for Data Center Management or Lead assigned workflow tasks in order to provide timely turnaround to customers

  • General data center upkeep including, completion of data center rounds, secure receipt and shipping of packages, assisting and/or complete physical and logical installations of Enterprise Technology infrastructure and services.

  • Participate in data center training programs.

  • Provision Enterprise Technology Services.

Qualifications

  • An Associate's degree in any Information Technology Field and 5+ years of equivalent experience in a related field or a Bachelor’s degree in any Information Technology field and 3+ years of experience

  • 3+ years experience supporting high-performance server configurations in a 24x7 enterprise data center environment, including:

  • Data Center IT operations: rack, cable, and maintain servers and devices, deploy lights-out hardware management, manage par stock / inventory.

  • Data Center Facility operations: power/cooling, rack planning, cabling, maintenance.

  • Experience with Data Center fiber and copper cabling installation, patching, and Industry Standard best practices.

  • Experience with structured cable testing (copper & fiber; wire map, performance, power meter or OTDR).

  • Familiarity with service management principles (request/change/incident/problem management, CMDB).

  • Familiarity with data center power distribution & cooling technologies (including UPS, ATS, RPP, PDU, POU), device and environmental monitoring, fire systems, and basic electrical concepts such as power, current, and voltage

  • Familiarity with MS Office Suite and Visio.

  • Intermediate level skill with MS Windows OS

  • Some Hardware Troubleshooting or Critical Thinking experience; will be able to diagnose issues with server hardware and isolate root causes; either internal (to the system hardware itself) or from external sources (i.e. Network or Storage related).

  • General understanding of server hardware, RAID technologies and their implementations, and SAN/NAS concepts.

  • Experience with Command line driven OS’s (*nix, etc.) a plus.

  • Experience with Cisco IOS a plus.

  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays with advanced notice.

  • Must be able to withstand walking, standing, stooping, bending and climbing on ladders for an extended period of time with reasonable accommodation.

  • Must be able to lift a minimum 75 lbs. with reasonable accommodation.

  • Must be able to participate in On-Call rotation and fill in for others if needed.

  • Ability to climb ladders and work aloft

  • Ability to work in cold temperature environments

  • Ability to maneuver pallet jacks and lift heavy objects

  • Ability to pull and install cabling
