Exhibitions Preparator (PH)

Recognizing the unique and enduring creative legacy started by Walt Disney, the Walt Disney Archives was established in 1970 to collect, preserve and make available for research the historical materials relating to Walt and the company he founded.

This position reports to the Manager, Exhibitions. The ideal candidate has experience in fine art installation and packing, and familiarity with the safe operation of common construction tools. They must also understand art and archival asset trucking and transportation practices, while taking initiative to be a proactive communicator.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:

  • Oversee the preparation of archival assets for outgoing and returning exhibitions including, but not limited to: packing, crating, and condition reporting

  • Ensure daily communication of updates between Exhibitions and Collections teams to ensure accurate information is exchanged and all assets are accounted for

  • Maintain accurate records for the digital asset management system, object lists, and project management software, ensuring all are up to date

  • Prioritize daily tasks and communicate exhibition support needs to Curators and Managers

  • Liaise with external vendors for exhibitions support needs such as gathering estimates and initiating work orders for shipping, crating, and mounts

  • Support Exhibitions Logistics Curator with load in/out plans for installs and deinstalls

  • Act as key point person during exhibition installs and deinstalls, both domestically and internationally

  • Conduct thorough and accurate condition reports of archival assets at installs/deinstalls

  • Provide support for local collection and delivery of assets and exhibitions materials using Walt Disney Archives vehicles

Required Education, Experience/Skills/Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree in studio art, art history, or a related field or equivalent experience

  • At least 3 years of experience in fine art packing and shipping

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment where priorities may change quickly

  • Familiarity with collections management systems, project management software, and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)

  • Ability to travel to exhibitions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with MuseumPlus and Smartsheet preferred

  • OSHA Trained and Certified Forklift Operator a plus

The hiring range for this position in North Hollywood, CA is $63,400 - $77,300 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
