The Commerce, Growth & Identity (CGI) organization is dedicated to three business-critical areas at Disney that will help transform its media business. We build innovative capabilities to drive subscriptions, engagement, and monetization. We enable the wide range of Disney brands to connect and engage with consumers through a unified identity, powered by shared services that are trustworthy and seamless to integrate with.

DE&ET Commerce, Growth and Identity Client Engineering organization delivers experiences across Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+, and Star+ built on a common platform and shared technology. We are fast-paced and fast-growing organization that shares knowledge and code for initiatives throughout Disney! Our mission: Building inclusive user-centered experiences that welcome users, guiding them through a seamless journey from login to sign up, and facilitating effortless account management. As a member on DE&ET Web Commerce team you’ll build the core sign-up, purchase, and subscription management experiences of our Web platform.

You will serve as a high level technical resource and “go-to” person, solving sophisticated technical challenges and finding opportunities to improve systems, products, and services!

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of 5+ engineers in designing and architecting the transactional, activations and billing portions of the commerce experience. Foster cross-organizational cooperation. Provide guidance and direction to team members.

  • Oversee code development to enhance applications' interaction with services. Champion code quality through strategic leadership and mentorship.

  • Work closely with engineering, product, design, and service teams to define product requirements.

  • Apply strategic thinking to identify, resolve, and develop solutions for complex architectural changes. Improving team collaboration, un-blocking developers from external forces, uphold boundaries and create an environment that allows the team to thrive and deliver quality software.

  • Oversee project management, ensuring projects align with team goals and organizational timelines.

  • Focus on talent development within the team. Cultivate trust, set goals, offer guidance, and provide constructive feedback.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum 8 years of technical experience with at least 2 years of management and engineering leadership.

  • Hands-on experience with modern web technologies, including TypeScript and JavaScript.

  • Proficiency in integrating with third-party systems (e.g., APIs, Service patterns like GraphQL, and REST).

  • Strong project management skills building roadmaps, sequencing work, identifying capacity and gaps, from inception to completion.

  • Experience developing and driving OKR's and KPI's that are aligned to technical and business objectives.

  • Exceptional emotional intelligence, maintaining composure under high-pressure situations and meeting urgent deadlines.

  • Effective collaboration and communication skills, able to discuss technical topics clearly and engage in productive technical discussions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Shipped production level React/Node.js application with high availability and throughput deployed to cloud platforms (e.g. AWS).

  • Proven ability to strategize and implement complex technical changes, share knowledge, and gain support for solutions.

  • Capability to support and mentor other engineering managers and team members, fostering trust, setting goals, offering guidance, and providing constructive feedback.

The hiring range for this position in Santa Monica, California is $164,500 - $220,600 per year and in Seattle and New York City and is $172,300 - $231,100 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered
