The Walt Disney Company Area Manager, Store Operations in Shanghai, China

Area Manager is leading a group of retail stores/locations in a geographic area or complex. Responsible to ensure the operating area achieves the goals including ensuring Disney working environment to Cast, providing excellent guest service and achieving financial targets. Oversight includes GSM, leads and Host/Hostess in their duties.

Responsibilities :

  • Serve as a leader and teacher of excellence in Safety, Courtesy, Show and Efficiency to Cast Members. Hold team accountable for ensuring an environment where Guest and Cast Safety is the first filter in operational decision-making

  • Partner with Human Resources team, responsible for coaching, disciplining and terminating Cast Members. Work with Operations Manager and Human Resources team on direction regarding the coaching, discipline, and termination of Cast Members

  • Conduct performance reviews with direct reports and help them to improve and grow

  • Motivate and engage Cast Members through inspirational leadership and storytelling. Identify and develop potential in Cast Members to build leadership teams that reflect the Cast we lead and guests we serve

  • Support, execute and sustain a vision that inspires exceptional guest service

  • Lead the execution of processes and procedures to exceed guest expectations

  • Model Disney Leadership competencies and deliver consistent excellent service

  • Accountable for operational business decisions and understand when to empower frontline Cast Members and leaders

  • Work with Planning and Merchandising team to develop merchandise plans connected to company financial, sales, inventory and gross margin goals. Work with Heart of House (Stock Replenishment) team to oversee order placement and tracking to ensure timely receipt of merchandise

  • Work with presentation team on store display and event set up

  • Partner with frontline leaders to manage assortment and liquidation strategies

  • Initiate loss prevention strategy and plan to ensure shrinkage within budget

  • Manage labor forecasting and responsible for increasing the profitability of the location, markdowns/markups, discounts, promotions and event functions. Review plans against business conditions and consumer trends and execute approved adjustment plans

  • Partner with workforce team on shifts arrangement. Ensure staffing level within the budget

  • Provide operational feedback to all support teams. Communicate and partner within and across lines of business to ensure smooth day-to-day operations

  • Initiate the proposals of optimizing current working procedures to maximize the benefit to operations

  • Responsible to ensure the operating area achieves financial goals

Basic Qualifications :

  • At least 8 years’ working experience in guest-facing industry including at least 4 years’ experience in retailing industry

  • At least 5 years’ leadership experience including at least 2 years’ experience in managing a complex or multiple locations

  • College degree and above. Bachelor’s degree preferred

  • Able to be self-directed and demonstrate strong leadership skills consistently

  • Proven ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple responsibilities holding self and others accountable. Demonstrated strong organizational, time management and follow-through skills, with strong attention to details

  • Demonstrated partnering or good interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrated strong business planning skills

  • Strong understanding of process improvement and importance of productivity standards

  • Proven problem-solving and project implementation skills, ability to connect strategy to implementation

  • Demonstrate communication skills both written and verbal to communicate on a daily basis as well as provide short and long term reporting metrics to give feedback

  • Highly organized with strong organizational and time management abilities

  • Adaptability and willingness to develop themselves and others

  • Ability to be flexible with work schedule including work shifts on weekends and holidays as well as late hours/overnight shifts, and work location (indoor or outdoor)

  • Available to be contacted any time

  • Efficient Computer skills (Excel, Word, Power Point). Proficient in presentation ability

  • Fluent Mandarin in both written and oral communication. English is workable

  • Able to work independently and make decisions in many different situations
